Consultant Academy · Stage 3 of 5
Quick answer
Land your first consulting client by offering a focused, scoped engagement rather than open-ended help: a paid strategy session or a project with a clear deliverable. Convert free consults into paid work by ending every discovery call with a specific, priced proposal instead of "let me know."
Key takeaways
Everything you need for the first revenue stage, strongest first.
Rates vary by niche and seniority, but consultants generally price on the value delivered, not hours. A paid strategy session is a common first offer; scoped project or retainer pricing follows as you build a track record.
Keep the free call focused and valuable, then end it with a specific next step and a price. When every discovery call closes with a clear proposal, your conversion rate climbs sharply.
Usually a warm connection: a former employer, colleague, or someone in your network who already trusts your judgment. Your reputation is your first pipeline.
